Courses in orchard skills

I teach a variety of courses on orchard skills for Brighton Permaculture Trust and Plumpton College in East Sussex.


Care of fruit trees

Learn about caring for young trees. Topics covered include feeding, compost and mulching; recognising pests; growing trees in small spaces; maintaining a healthy orchard; and management of the land between the trees, including meadows, companion plants, and other crops. Run in conjunction with Brighton Permaculture Trust. Learn more.


Fruit tree grafting

Learn how to use the chip budding technique to graft an apple variety onto rootstock. You’ll also learn about the maintenance and sharpening of grafting knives as well as how to select rootstocks. Run in conjunction with Brighton Permaculture Trust on 8 September 2018. Learn more.


Planning and planting a small orchard

Learn how to design a small orchard, taking into consideration soil type, shade, spacing, pollination groups, and varieties. Get hands-on practice in planting a fruit tree. Fruit Tree Pruning

Half-day courses in fruit tree pruning are also run during February each year at the Ringmer Community Orchard outside Lewes, East Sussex. Contact me for further information.
