Care of fruit trees
Learn about caring for young trees. Topics covered include feeding, compost and mulching; recognising pests; growing trees in small spaces; maintaining a healthy orchard; and management of the land between the trees, including meadows, companion plants, and other crops. Fruit tree grafting
Learn how to side-graft an apple variety onto a rootstock. You will also learn about the maintenance and sharpening of grating knives as well as how to select rootstocks and be able take away your own grafted tree. Run in conjunction with BPT during early March. Contact me for details.
Planning and planting a small orchard
Learn how to design a small orchard, taking into consideration soil type, shade, spacing, pollination groups, and varieties. Get hands-on practice in planting a fruit tree. Fruit Tree Pruning
Half-day courses in fruit tree pruning are also run during February each year at the Ringmer Community Orchard outside Lewes, East Sussex. Contact me for further information.
