Most of the Sussex apple varieties are grown on a fruit tree nursery at Rickstaddle Farm just outside Cooksbridge in East Sussex.
The trees grow well on the greensand and clay soils with organic materials used to encourage healthy growth.
Some of the varieties are also contract grown by another fruit tree nursery.
The year starts in March with planting of the rootstocks in nursery rows and continues with plenty of hand weeding and hoeing until the grafting of all the different varieties in August.
The trees are dug out of the ground for sale from late November and this continues until early March.
Some of the land is left fallow for several years before adding manure and ploughing in preparation for the new year.
